Title: Substitution box design
Post by: daveyajd on July 07, 2016, 11:19:39 pm
Hey everyone,
So as I am putting together my latest version of the Tweed Overdrive Special I got a wild hair to make myself a substitution box. Then I got another idea to build several different ones. :icon_biggrin:  Here are a couple of layouts for my labels. The first one will be to compare all values of Mallorys and OD Polyester. The second one is essentially a resistor sub box but with a switch to allow building cathode bypass combinations. I happened across seven 1 pole 12 throw rotary switches so I am planning another cap box for Sozo/Jupiter/Dijon......something like that. What do you think? Any suggestions on specific values I may not have? I also thought I may be able to have a box with 4 different cap types using only 2 switches if I just used the 6 main values for each.

So here's a little update. I scaled down my expectations for this first build but I also tried to build some flexibility in. I used a couple of terminal strips and turrets to allow switching between 6 caps (or resistors)  that can be set up for either 6 different values or 6 different types of the same value. My first test has been the .02 cap for V1 in my TOS. I'm liking the Musicap, Mallory, and Pyramid.
