Hi guys,
I just got a couple of new Weber speakers to test out. One was a DT12 30 watt and the other was a NeoMag 12" 60 watt. Both are 8 ohm.
I put them a two by cab with the Deluxe Reverb I just finish up with.
The DT12 sound really good. I sort of assumed it would before I ordered it.
The NeoMag not so much. Also connecting the two together did not sound good.
I also tried a pair of vintage Celestion G12M that I have had for a while which sounded OK but not great at least to me. Another guitar player liked them. Speaker sound is pretty subjective.
I ordered the NeoMag as it is supposed to sound like a vintage JBL D120F which I did not think it did. I put a original vintage JBL D120F in a 18 watt Marshall for a friend and it sounded killer. Next time I get a chance I will AB the NeoMag with the original JBL.
I just need to win the lottery so I can buy more stuff to experiment with...lol

remember most speakers also need a break in period, if they're brand new they won't quite sound right until you've broken them in...
Or at least that's my understanding of it.

You didn't really describe what it was you were looking for that you bought the speakers for in the first place? Or the type of use as far as style of music, type of guitar, pickups, etc.?
Then you didn't describe anything about how the speakers sounded at all and instead just said they either "sounded good" or not? Even when you discussed the neo mag vs the jbl - nothing...?
Not trying to pick on you, just that readers have no idea what you posted as how it relates to the speaker's character and sound by not using any adjectives at all, i.e. bright, dark, punchy, chimey, ice pick, brittle, harmonically rich, distorts easily, stays very clean, etc...

I been away for the holidays.
I was not looking for some certain characteristic in any of these speakers except the NeoMag. I am testing them on several amps, the Deluxe Reverb, a Vibrolux, and a 18 watt Marshall.
I have a vintage JBL D120F all original which we are using in a 18 watt Marshall. The NeoMag was a sort of copy of that speaker. The two speakers did not sound that much alike. The NeoMag was a bit pricy I did not turn out like I had hoped. I am sure I will find a home for it at some point. The NeoMag did not respond to the guitar in the same way that the JBL did as there was a lot less feedback with the NeoMag. It also did not have the high frequency response of the JBL.
As far a guitars, Strats and Les Pauls and Tom Anderson Drop Top were used in the testing. The Les Paul is stock, most of the Strats have Rio Grande pickups, The Anderson is stock with humbuckers. Musical style was rock, blues, country, pretty standard stuff.
The DT12 in the Deluxe Reverb had a pretty smooth break up with good bass response and sounded pretty close to some vintage Fender speakers I have listen to in Deluxe Reverbs. I thought the DT12 was a good choice for that amp.
Actually, I was wondering what others thought about both speakers.

I have a DT12 as well, loaded in a 1x12 cab.
Bought the speaker because it was light, cheap, and had early smooth breakup and good bass response which suited my needs at the time.
The thing is I hated the speaker as it arrived... It sounded thin and very unballanced.
I've always been skeptical about the need of break in periods for speakers, but this one made such a great difference after some playing that I changed my mind completely. After a few hours of playing at moderate volumes the sound became fuller and more ballanced. Now I'd strongly recommend this speaker if looking for a smooth early breakup tone.
