Title: power amp and diff preamps
Post by: Colas LeGrippa on January 02, 2017, 03:31:55 pm
Hi my friends, older ones surely remember the GBX amplifiers with the power amo in the speaker cab and the preamp in a separate unit. I 'd like to know if other amp builders have built tube guitar amps using the same layout. My idea is to build 2-3 diiferent preamps to be used in conjunction with the same power. One chooses a preamp according to waht he likes and picks uo a power amp: 18, 50 , 100w or whatever. The idea is to keep it simple and to sell only what the client wants. Ex: a LeGrippa amplifier would be great for the blues, rock, heavy rock, metal, country.....

Egnater and Randall made amps with preamp modules that you could swap out.  I never played one but wanted to build something like that in the early-2000's.  I must have gotten over that urge...
