Title: Extra bottle and want a clean channel for my SE KT88 build
Post by: goldstache on January 10, 2017, 02:47:31 pm
I'm looking for schematics for a clean/to mildly overdriven preamp that will drive a SE KT88 output section. I've found a lot of hifi designs on the web, but i'm looking for a guitar topology.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to achieve a nice clean channel for my KT88 SE design.
I have a bogner-esque gain channel already going and it sounds real nice.  V1A > Vol > V1B > (V divider) > V2A > CF > Tonestack > Master Vol > KT88
I love the gain channel but had an extra socket on there for an FX loop.  Decided to go solid state for the effects loop, which left me with an extra noval socket.  I thought, man, it would be awesome to have a really nice clean channel option.  Here's what I'm thinking:

Perhaps use V1A as the first stage of both channels.  ( this is appealing because the gain channel hits the KT88 inverted, so my extra 2 stages would allow phase coherence for passive mixing if I headed that route.)

I've heard of virtual earth mixers, though I don't think i've ever used em, just passively mixed channels like fender does. and thought it would be cool to have the distorted and clean channels mixed there and then head to the Marshall-esque CF and into a shared TMB style tonestack.

I only have 1 tube to spare.
Coupled triode stage, Bootstrapped, EF86, LND150 preamp and the additional 2 stages of a twin triode??????
Any of these ideas ring any bells?

What do you think I need VAC-wise out of my preamp to drive the KT88?
I'm thinking single tone knob, or even coupling cap array on a switch for a tone control.

I don't have a schematic written yet, but thought i'd extend the question to get the juices flowing.

Thanks.
