Title: Matchless lightning with cathode biased El34/KT66
Post by: Vdelli on March 31, 2017, 01:27:07 am
Hi folks,

I'm very happy with my Matchless Lightning Reverb build, I love the clean tone and also how it sound if it is pushed by pedals. You can really rock with this amp, but there could be more power when I set the amp clean an do all the drive sounds with my pedals.
So I want to build an other one. I was thinking about to use cathode biased EL34/Kt66 or something like that. I also want to build the divided by 13 FTR 37 click channel with a 5879 tube as separate channel instead of the Reverb. This could be a nice combination.

First I thought I easily use the power section of the Clubman oder Chieftain, but I read in an other thread that this schematic eats the tube for lunch.

Does somebody build something like that already?

With best regards

the Clubman
I built a Plexi- style pre and used a clubman pa.  Works very well, good sound.

Hi shooter,

Thanks! What can you say about the Power? Would it be loud enough for club gigs? And what's about the lifespan?

Mine is running 25W into a 2X12, the guitar guys that test drove it thought it 40W and said it would work in most small venues.  I'm running the 34s at about 90% pdiss, I'd put lifespan at a year easy for a weekender.

Thank you shooter! That's sounds quite good to me. The amp would be used 3 times per week, could be ok.
