Title: Stout TMB question

I am about to start building a Stout 18 TMB; would there be any issues using a fender style, 6.3v pilot instead of the neon line voltage? ..and any other suggestions or tips prior to starting this endeavor?

No issues if you will be using a blank chassis. Just make the necessary wiring changes to the lamp holder.

If you use Hoffman's pre-drilled chassis be sure there's enough room on the front panel. You'll have to make the hole bigger. And you may need to move the cap can to provide clearance. Here is a gut shot of my 18 Watt Stout.

I re-purposed a Blackheart 5 for the project.  I haven't worked with that chassis, so I am not sure of the alternate cap locations. 

I do like the using the Fender style light as well.

Check out the recent threads on the Blackheart conversion.  Sluckey and Tubenit had some great Mods that really made my amp sing.  Fantastic amp! 

Update:

I see from the thread listed by Sluckey above, and I see the photo of the cap mounted next to the transformer, that is similar to what I did,  I highly recommend purchasing a 1 1/2" punch or borrowing one, unless you can find a Step Bit that goes to 1 1/2 ".

Thanks, I am designing into a completely new combo design. Another question: 2x10s or 1x12?

I will post photos of my last build, a stripped down AC30 roughly based on Doug's schematic.

I have never played a 2 x 10 combo, but I have carried them.

I am into lightweight cabinets so I opt for 1 x 12's

I'll send a link to the details.  One or two voicing tricks that they boys passed along as well as the layout for the PPIMV should you choose to implement it.

I highly recommend the changes, but I would not install them until you know for sure you want to alter the voicing.

I spent a few weeks with the amp and tried a few different tubes, etc.  and then made each change one at a time.

It was a good experience for me.

As i am looking through the schematic here i notice there is no "stand by", as i will use the 5Y3 tube rectifier instead of a solid state replacement; i was planning on running a stand by circuit. Thoughts?
