So I'm now having my wife build a champ. She'd been curious and wanted to give it a try, I figured having a newb try out a simple amp is a good encouragement for those on the fence of 'should I build a tube amp' so here's the video. I already posted video one and two, :

I think this is a VERY cool thing that you and your wife are doing! Bravo! I am always impressed when someone seeks to understand the world that their marriage partner lives in and/or values.
As an observation, (perhaps more often then not) women seem more willing to take instruction to learn a new skill set then most of of us guys. Watching the video, your wife seem to catch on remarkably quick and you seem to enjoy giving some direction which she placed value on.
Thanks for sharing this experience with us. I wished more couples were intentional to create an "us".
Respectfully, Jeff

Thanks!
Yeah we both work to try to understand the others passions etc. That's the big thing, relationships aren't easy, they require work. A lot of it. She also had a ton of fun and is now talking about wanting to be the one to put my boards into the chassis etc. She likes the kind of 'puzzle pieces going together' thing and is way better than I at making things look nice. So we may end up making a great amp building team. Leo had is mexican ladies doing the builds, but I'll do the board population etc, and pass it off to her for installation into the chassis ;) Some variation of that idea anyway heheh.

Cool man, does she play? It's nice to have your wife express interest in your passion as Tubenit said. Everyone deserves a Champ!

She's a very talented musician, but plays the piano and violin, she's taken a bit to bass guitar to try it out but I think it didn't sit right with her :) She's small and even a 3/4 neck is a bit hard for her up on the high end of the neck.
-
Haha! That IS small! My girlfriend is 6'1" and plays the ukelele... She's getting into guitar quite a bit with me, I built her a ruby amp and some fuzz pedals and stuff. So maybe I'll have her build a champ :icon_biggrin: Course I should finish mine first... seems like a good idea!

See man, this is crap. You should have had her build this propped up on a cardboard box on a card table while "Predator" plays in the background on VHS.. component bender? Really? You're spoiling her! She probably hasn't even burned herself severely with the iron trying to hold a part in place yet.. And speaking of Irons.. you should have given her the RadioShack 15/30 pencil to build a few things with!
I'm just playing, I think it's great! She will be much more likely to come back with a great introduction like this! It took me about 10 guitar pedals before I figured out how to mount stuff so I wouldn't get burned, and to use helping hands etc. And to have a tidy work bench :icon_biggrin: and even now I usually have like three or for things strewn across my table while I'm working.. I just prefer clutter.
Thanks for sharing the video!

Lol yeah, you're basically talking through everything I failed at too. I figure that if she's going to like it, I best help her avoid the 'traps for young players' :)
