Title: My 6G15 project; help, ideas & comments welcomed
Post by: warioblast on May 05, 2017, 01:55:46 pm
So I got all the electronic parts. I sligthly arranged the original board layout.
I want my enclosure to be kinda like a Marshall head; with the chassis laying on the bottom and the controls on the front. The tank will be mounted behind the front side; just like Fender reverbs.

As you can see on my beautiful drawing; proportions are off FIY :icon_biggrin:; I'll be putting the tranformers & the choke in the left back of the chassis. My initial question is about the Power Transformer. In the original 6G15 the PT is inside the chassis. Is it only because of a space issue ? Or does it have to do with something else, like interference with the tank or whatnot ?

Placement of the PT is more of a physical layout issue. Inside or outside the chassis is not really important. But you still got to follow some layout rules, such as keep the PT away from sensitive low level signal areas. I built a revibe rather than a 6G15 and I put the PT inside the chassis. The layout I wanted to use required the PT to be inside. My layout is similar to what you want except I mounted the reverb tank on the chassis.

Not saying you should copy my layout but at least take a look. It may give you some ideas about your particular layout...

What OT do you have?

It looks like your OT has too many wires?

It's a Hammond 1760C. I cut the primary 5000 ohms and secondaries 3.2 & 16 ohms out.

I finally finished my cabinet. I'll post pics later. I wanted to show you guys how it looks and sounds with a little video but it turns out my build isn't as noiseless as I thought.  :sad2:

I have 2 issues:
_ past the 1st third of the tone knob and depending on the orientation of the cabinet, I get a repetitive, percussive sound, almost like a morse code. It's the same sequence that goes on and on. Mixer knob affects its volume, but the dwell control has no impact on it.

_ I was trying to find out if my reverb was humming or not. My amp is already humming a bit so I put the reverb in a true bypass box. I discerned a little background noise. If you don't pay attention you don't really notice it. So it's not a big concern but if I could get rid of it  :icon_biggrin:
It's hard to describe what I'm hearing. It's not a hum. It's not a hiss. It's more a shushing.
