Title: 66 Pro Reverb faceplate damage

Help!


I've been working on a 1966 Pro Reverb and tried to remove some masking tape residue from the top of the front panel faceplate and managed (with some isopropanol cleaner) to take what appears a thin layer of slightly shiny clear lacquer off part of it. It now looks a bit tatty :(


Any suggestions for restoring an even sheen to the faceplate?

Might try a waxing like spit shining boots.  I use WD40 on rubber to get a smooth finish, but I would be concerned with removing the silkscreen.  The ink used has cobalt as the drying agent and it is really tough, but anything with a solvent I would not use.


Some soap and water may even it back out, you may just have residue lingering.

Thanks Ed, I did think about a wax finish. The Isopropanol went through the black of the faceplate a little so I'm really annoyed about that.


Any ideas for touching up?


I'll try the wax on the back first.
