Title: Gibson GA17 RVT Scout Output Transformer Specs?
Post by: 3choplex on July 26, 2017, 12:06:49 am
The output transformer on my Scout is reading as open. The only replacement I can identify is the Mercury Magnetics one, which is more expensive than I would prefer. Does anyone know the specs of that OT so I can shop around? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you could use Hoffman's Princeton Reverb OT, or a Deluxe OT or his 18w OT.  IF you are concerned about bolts lining up then compare the mounting specs of those OT's with the Scout OT.

with respect, Tubenit

Your amp was originally designed to use 6v6 equiv tubes.  (6AQ5, I believe).  IMO, Tubenit has provided good information.

Mercury lists part numbers almost like the amp model numbers, making it hard to cross reference.  Since Mercury does not provide specs for their transformers like one of their competitors, You are relying on Mercury know how, and not your experience in selecting components. Based the limited the information available, I would follow Tubenit's advice.

8k to 10k Ra-a @ 10-15w - 15w is overkill.
