Title: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe maybe Reverb Problem
Post by: TerryD on October 06, 2017, 10:19:25 am
Getting severe and short bursts of crackling I'll call it.  Maybe a POP! or two.  I think I'm hearing the reverb come and go with this.  I've poked around the reverb wires and bang the tubes with a chop stick but nothing coming in clear as to what to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would try to crank the reverb and be positive about whether it's "coming and going"
- Try disconnecting the reverb tank...still happening?
- Divide and conquer
- Take the reverb send and plug it directly into a speaker, you should be able to hear the 'pre-reverb' amp...still happening?

That may be risky with this amp. The tank is driven with an opamp. I bet the tank impedance is much more than 8Ω.

Good call, Sir...
The replacement tank is a 4EB3C1B, which has 600 ohm input imp.

Terry, you 'could' use a listening device at that(or any) stage

Or run the preamp out signal into another amp....
