Title: 5F1 with varitone replacing one of two inputs?
Post by: leevc5 on November 27, 2017, 09:23:55 am
I only use one of the two inputs on the 5F1 and I have a varitone switch sitting around.
So,  why not use the unused input jack as a home for the varitone thought I.
Switch position one is true bypass so I have unaltered 5F1 tone.
The rest of the switch position give some interesting tone alternatives without causing the dreaded mid scoop of the 5F2a tone control.
Sounds cool, adds some variety...but I was wondering if this is causing some sort of problem or is there something better I can use the second input jack for?

Look, I have nowhere near the skills most of the guys on the forum, have, but every schematic, I have seen shows the varitone installed on the instrument, between the volume and tone knobs.  Is it possible to post what you believe would work.   Could I suggest you draw up a schematic, and then let the guys on the forum look it over.  I would look at other early fender schematics, and possibly adapt a volume tone stack for your champ/champ-clone.
The forum accepts jschem's format, however a lot of the guys are now using visio.

Good luck

Thank you for the reply. I went ahead and did it and then undid it. The varitone switch really sounds awful on the 5F1...had to give it a shot though.
