Title: Hi I need my hand held
Post by: Heddok on December 29, 2017, 10:47:27 pm
Hi everyone.
I'm a retired physician and a casual guitarist.  I love playing with amps.  Grew up watching my Dad swear when he had to replace tubes in our TV.  I thought I'd gone to heaven when everything went "solid state"  Little did I know 50 years later I'd be wanting to build an actual vacuum tube amp.

So my topic title is that with much trepidation I'm researching my first amp kit.  I made the mistake of renting a Fender 59 Bassman Ltd from my guitar store.  I gave it back 2 months ago but I just can't get that sound out of my head.

So now with almost no experience except two pedal kits I'm looking at a Bassman as my first kit.  Sounds crazy doesn't it.

So be prepared to answer lots of questions.

Brad

Hi Doc -  Welcome to the forum. A 5F6A as a first build tube amp isn't crazy at all and many people here have successfully built them. Are you considering a kit like a MOJO kit?

I'm looking at the Hoffman 5F6kit and ordering a cab from mojotone.  I'll source speakers up here in Canada to cut shipping costs.  I was looking to the Trinity 5E3 kit due to the extensive instructions but I really want a 4x10 Bassman.

There seems to be tons of documentation and info here so I think I'm going to keep reading and get the courage to tackle the 5F6 as that's what I really want for tone.

Welcome aboard!  I think you will find that what you build will sound even better than the one you rented!  That's the disease for which there is no cure! :help:
