Title: Upgrading a Bassman AB165 with Tung Sol 7581
Post by: pbman1953 on February 02, 2018, 07:40:03 am
I'm dropping my Bassman off this weekend to have it looked at to possibly improve power using Tung Sol 7581's.

Has anyone tried them?

it's a 30W tube - same as 6L6GC-STR tung-sol sells. i don't see how that will improve power output. if you were using sovtek/EH 5881 then you'd see a slight power increase.

have not tried them... i stick with the coin base sovtek 5881. rock solid in MI amps.

another decent tube is the groove-tubes sino mfg. 6L6GC GE copy. have them in a pair of twin reverb's i maintain, my personal ampeg v4, and crate blue voodoo. no issues so far.

I'll find out more tomorrow , what he wants to do. All I can say is that he's a former Fender employee that was long side Leo back in the day in California. He knows all the "oldie's" and does miracles with them.  Stellar workmanship and you get a personalized education every time you see him.

Plus he's on of the best guitarist  I've ever seen up close.
