Title: MUSICMAN 2165-RD-CAL - power tubes
Post by: FrancisOnTubes on July 26, 2018, 01:21:30 am
I have on the bench a Musicman 2165-RD-CAL per the chassis model stamp.   The Tube chart shows two power tubes - 6L6GC.   The schematic for the 2165-RD shows the tubes to be 6CA7 (EL34).

I would suspect that the -CAL on the model probably meant a "CALifornia" configurations meaning American power tubes - the might 6L6GC used in Fender amps.

Has anyone crossed paths with this amp?   Anyone know of a "-CAL" version schematic?

If it has the transistors under the cathodes for bias, it hardly matters what tube is used.

While EL34 was historically the better buy, maybe KenRad plant had a clearance sale, 6L6GC half off.

I agree the disagreement between chart and schematic is odd; I suspect MM was still getting their act together and didn't document every variation. (Or those docs got lost along the decades.)
