(CNN) Ed King, the Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist who co-wrote the Southern rock anthem, "Sweet Home Alabama," has died.
King was one of three writers of "Sweet Home Alabama,"... The rollicking track begins with King counting "1-2-3,"... then played the infamous Stratocaster riff as well as the solos in that tune....

Seems to be getting faster and faster that we are losing great talents. When creating great licks, some will say Whose you daddy. Ed King is your Granddaddy!

Not to mention his work in Strawberry Alarm Clock. What a great player and riff-master. Watched the Skynyrd documentary. That was a messed up band. Never saw them live but they were not a sound I was really interested in. Simple Man was our slow song in a band I was in way back then....

What, a Stratocaster running through 6 Peavy mace amps with 120 watts of 4 bottle 6L6GC and Field Repariable Black Widow Speakers. Ed Kings rig.

I saw them in Shreveport, La I think around 1977. Ed was present.
It was an Awesome performance as I was a big fan of in those days
The crash in 1979 was an eye opener. All of us big fans were in shock
and dis belief. I hear they are on their farewell tour that has been extended.

Gary Rossington is the main original member still surviving.
I use to read a lot of history on them. Ronnie VanZant was
kind of a tough guy bully and they were a little fearful of him
at first until they got use to him. Also Ronnie had timing problems
on some songs of when to come in singing and Gary would have
to que him when to start. Gary and Ronnie loved to go fishing when

Saw them in 1992, and Ed King really blew me away with his playing. RIP.
