Title: Lapsed Cyclist
Post by: alathIN on November 02, 2018, 12:09:20 pm
"Other hobbies" got me thinking about how much I miss cycling.

For the past several years I've been cycling to work almost every day but this year things conspired against me - wife back in school, kids need to go somewhere, got moved to a different office that's more bike-hostile to get to, and a lot of bad luck with the weather. I'll ride in the rain but not thunderstorms.

I saw the (apparently broken) link to Doug Hoffman's bike light page. I'd be interested in that content. I usually just mount a flashlight to my bars - people are making some really good flashlights these days. If I toured I'd think about a dyno hub.

Used to race 2-3 triathlons per year, but not really in that kind of shape now.

Just like guitars and amps, I'm an inveterate tinkering "projects" guy and I've built/re-built and restored a few bikes. My tri bike is a "frankenbike" made from random e-bay parts. My commuter is my favorite bike of all time, unfortunately the guy who started these was hit by a truck and not building bikes any more. The Raleigh is a youth road bike that started out as my cousins', then handed down to me and my brothers, sat in a barn for 35 years, and just restored it last year.
