I got to thinking, Doug chose "EL34" as his name, and that's got to mean something, right? What are the favorite amps using EL34's?

NOTHING sounds like pushing EL34's hard, but 2 in parallel makes a nice sound, but the second harmonic needs to be lessened to get a good Marshall sound from an SE.
In any case, a Push Pull EL34 amp is loud as hell unless you lower voltages a lot, and then they get too dampened sounding to me. Build it. Play it in 2.5 for a week and move the volume up .5 each week on the volume control. Within the month they will come. The police and they will not be amused if you ask if they would like to sing Roxanne.
Yes, I got fined about 6 years ago. The policeman said this was the first noise ordanince he has written a fine for someone playing in their house. I was playing a 2 bottle 1987 (schematic model, not year) Plexi. I have a soundproof room for my cabinets, but sometimes I just gotta feel it. No one called on me either, the policeman said he heard it from his car.
Must have been worth it cause I still do it from time to time.

Asking for a favorite EL34 amp is like asking if we know someone who works at Boeing or for the government. That is a big list. There are a lot of iterations. Much depends on what you want to do/play/sound like. Is there a guitar hero you wish to emulate? A style? The EL34 does have a certain characteristic - especially when pushed. It has become a Marshall trademark of sorts. However, many other brands have used them in anger.
Ed... Reminds me of an outdoor party we did out in the boonies back in the day. The homeowner went around the area telling people about the party and a live band playing to midnight. Interesting concept as he invited everyone to make sure there were no complaints. Around 9:00 the cops show up and tell us to shut down. Turns out the complaint came from right at a mile away. Oh the delicate sound of a couple of KT88's and 16 12" speakers. As much as I'd like to take credit for that, being that far away I'm sure they heard the thumping SVT long waves instead of me. You on the other hand, need to move out of Hooterville to a more civilized area where they appreciate a dimed Marshall.

Nothing special with my EL34 name
The history goes like this
Some time in the 90's I started playing Quake 3 and needed a gaming name
I chose EL34 because I was reading tube amp books at the time and looking at Marshall schematics in Aspen Pittman's tube amp book #1
This was before hoffman Amplifiers started
