My Bro was on a guided missile cruiser, the USS Gridley CG21 from '67-'71. He was a fire control (officer/guy? sorry I can not remember) - he shot the missiles! As a kid I made the mistake of calling it a boat. He patiently, but firmly explained that BOATS went UNDER the water and SHIPS go ON the water!!!!!!!! :cussing: :BangHead: He went into the reserves and retired in '87 as a Chief Petty Officer. I told him his hash marks only made him look old! Thank you for your service and your ranking family members as well! :worthy1:

I was the "new Navy", they needed guys good at electronics and computers, they found us :icon_biggrin:
80% of the guys I met that became very good at it were '70's hippies that got bored :think1:
me, I was a street hustler, janitor with few prospects. I took the ASVAP, missed 2, the guy said I was qualified for everything the Navy offered, I laughed, said the test must be wrong, I wanna re-test. He came un-glued, I didn't want to get into something I "knew" I wasn't qualified for, re-tested and ace'd it, ok lets see....
I could NEVER have done as well in College, I'm pretty sure God knew that
