I'm still quite new to this. Can someone explain when it's preferable to use one capacitor versus another in any given situation. I'm rather confused about when to use a ceramic capacitor and when to use an orange drop and when to use a one with a positive and pole. Maybe there is an article somewhere someone can point me to.

I just use the value stated in the schematic. I don't really care if it's ceramic, or mica, or film, or polyester, or corduroy. My favorite coupling cap is the Xicon chicklet style because they are small and don't melt if touched with a hot iron. They also fit very well on the style boards that I use. I totally stay away from those big, expensive caps.

This is a huge topic with lots of opinions and sometimes bordering on religious devotion.
