Title: wiring 2X12 cab for both 4 and 16 ohm load
Post by: mageerc on April 07, 2019, 12:56:55 pm
I have a 2X12 cab with 8 ohm speakers and wish to wire it for both 4 and 16 ohm loads using a couple of Cliff jacks. Could someone check this crude diagram and see if I'm thinking correctly?

Plugging into the 4Ω jack puts both 8Ω speakers in parallel and phased correctly. That's good.

But... plugging into the 16Ω jack only connects to the top 8Ω speaker. In fact the top speaker is hard wired to the 16Ω jack. Not good.

You're close but not quite there. Here's how I do it with one jack and a switch. This may help you figure out your two cliff jacks...

I could never figure out how to use 2 jacks, but came up with a 3 jack option that should give me a 4 ohm mono, a 16 ohm mono and an 8 ohm stereo option using 3 jacks. Would this option be viable?
