Title: question for sluckey about supro 24 build?
Post by: ALBATROS1234 on June 02, 2019, 02:10:51 pm
on v1, one half signal comes out the plate, passes thru a .005 then hits the vol/tone for that channel . on the second channel it passes thru a .005 then drops thru a 270k to ground as well as continuing on thru a second .005 before it goes to the vol/tone for this channel. what is the point of the 270k to ground as well as the seconf .005 cap? it seems the resistor to ground will just rob the channel of signal but also this has passed a coupling cap, why would you need the second cap? it seems to me that as well as coupling the .005 is a high pass but it seems redundant to me. also the .005 coupling caps seem small, is the amp balanced well tonally or would a .01 be better? i am soldering away atm and i got to this and wondered these things before i continue. thank you.

That's the way Supro did it. I just copied the original schematic because I wanted to sound just like Jimmy. Don't you?    :icon_biggrin:

lol sure, i guess i am just doing my usual and overthinking shit. that 270k with the extra cap made no sense to me, i hoped you would say blah blah its because this or that blah blah so i would feel enlightened. lol happy sunday my man.

Look at the original schematic. Notice that we are talking about the tremolo channel. C13, C14, and R24 make up a hi pass filter that passes the guitar signal but rejects any remnants of the very low frequency tremolo signal. We want the amplitude modulation effects of the tremolo signal, but we don't want the tremolo signal itself.

Feel better now?

oh well i am actually omiting the tremolo (6424 lite)so do you suggest i omit the extra cap and resistor to ground on that channel?

yea i am adding a type 3 ppimv and omiting tremolo with your switched channel mod. i tryed the type 3 on another original design which is kinda more of a copied this from that amp and that from this amp. if you turn the master volume all the way up its like the mod isnt there, at really low volume it sounds a little harsh like its missing some frequencies or something , at medium volume its fine. i like it because it gives me versatility of being able to dial in more crunch at lower volume than if the mv wasnt there. thank you for taking the time to respond, i do appreciate it.

With no tremolo you may as well remove the filter. May as well make the tube cathode look like the other channel too.

Are you gonna do your own layout? Let us know how that crossline MV works on this amp. I think you could be the very first person to ever use it in a paraphase inverter.

will do, i may leave the two channels biased like that but remove the filter. reasoning, the channels will sound a little different and maybe in parallel the blend will sound good.as for layout i am repurposing a chassis and its too tight for a board . doing point to point with those little old school phenolic tie point racks, dont know what their called. ps is on a separate perfboard.
