Title: Nearly finishing Bandmaster, but what is X and Y?

Hi.  I am about to finish my Bandmaster AB763, but feel a bit uncertain of what X an Y refers to? Are they to be interconnected or...?  Never seen it before.

X connects to X and Y to Y.
