Title: Rob Robinette's .diy files
Post by: EL34 on July 15, 2019, 05:47:32 am
Note: I added several of Rob's files to the DIYLC library here.
The files are just the board and terminals so they will pass the DIYLC analyzer program

Rob Robinette has a bunch of .diy files on his web site

You can download any of them and have them made as a custom board

You can also customize his files using DIYLC if you want to change something

Step 1: You download the .diy file from Rob's web site or get them from my library (See link Below)
Right click your mouse on the .diy file and "SAVE AS" to download a file.
Step 2: Modify the file if needed using DIYLC (Go to step 3 if you do not need to modify the file.)
Step 3: Use my DIY file analyzer program to add the board to your shopping cart

Make sure you get Rob's .diy files that only have the boards
The files that have all the external parts will not pass the DIY File Analyzer program

Here's Rob's web site
This page says it has all his DIYLC files on this page
https://robrobinette.com/DIYLC_Files_by_Rob_Robinette.htm (https://robrobinette.com/DIYLC_Files_by_Rob_Robinette.htm)

I also have most of his files here in my DIY library
The files in my library will pass the DIY File Analyzer program

Download and install DIYLC if you want to create or edit .diy files

Rob's Black Vibe eyelet board is now on the Misc Eyelet boards catalog page
This makes it much easier to order them

Some of Rob's files will not pass the DIY analyzer program
That's because he used eyelets to make grommets and these eyelets are off the edges of the board

You can find the off board items and delete them
Or change them to something else other than an eyelet, like a circle

I attached Rob's file to this post with those off the board eyelets deleted

See my screen shot for Rob's 5E3_optimized layout with the items circled in red

The items circled in red are eyelets that are off the edges of the board

I have most of Rob's files in my DIYLC libraryThey will all pass my DIYLC analyzer program
The library is here

See the post above first
This is how you can find those off the board eyelets

Go to the layers menu
Lock the board layer
Lock the Trace layer

Select everything and hit delete

Un-Lock the board layer
Un-Lock the Trace layer

The only things left will be the board and the eyelets
Now you can see where the off the board eyelets are

When you click on an items, it shows what it is down in the lower left

Title: Black Vibe notes

Rob's Black vibe page is here
https://robrobinette.com/RR763_BLACKVIBE.htm (https://robrobinette.com/RR763_BLACKVIBE.htm)

I added a public Part list for the Black Vibe
https://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/PartsListIndex.htm (https://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/PartsListIndex.htm)

The Black Vibe eyelet board is on this page
https://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/MiscEyeletBoard.htm (https://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/MiscEyeletBoard.htm)

Here is a direct link to the Black Vibe parts list
https://hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/catalog/Amp_BlackVibe.htm

I took Rob's layout diagram and made a parts list
Here are some notes about the parts list

50uf/100v bias cap changed to 47uf/100v
70uf/350v filter caps changed to 100uf/350v
25uf/25v cathode bypass caps changed to 22uf/50v
.1uf/200v cap changed to .1uf/630v
25kl chassis mount bias pot is a regular pot with metal shaft

There is a 50k trim pot on the back of the 25kl bias pot that I am not sure what to do with
Maybe a simpler bias system would be better?

I added an image here with some of my notes in red
The image is too large to post here
Here is the image link you can open

If anyone has any suggestions or find things that I missed, please post down below

The bias pot is a bias balance control, the trim pot is the bias. Builders can always use the classic AB763 bias circuit to keep it simpler.

A note on downloading .diy files from Rob's web site

If you click on the .diy file link, it will sometimes open the file
You don't open the file, you want to download the file

Right click on the file link and choose save as
Different browsers may list it differently

Save the file on your computer and then go to the file analyzer program to add it to my shopping cart
That link is at the top of this post in post #1

Here is how Opera browser right click looks
