Title: 65 PRRI - Ye Olde Noise Thread

Ello, ello.


I've got a PRRI that just developed some static noise. Tubes are new and the noise persists without any preamp tubes. Noise can be exacerbated and set off by tapping anywhere on the amp. Any ideas?  I realize how nebulous this can be, but as a new dad I don't have the time I once had to troubleshoot.

most of the "reissue" amps I've worked on ALL suffered the same fate, solder NONE flow, especially in and around the connectors.  Running they are great, but the QC sucks and were NOT re-designed for the back of station wagons

Problem was one of the new TAD 6v6's. Was grateful that the sockets are chassis mounted once I discovered the issue.  Was thinking it might have been something around it.

Just an update to shut this down. A couple of loose pins were causing the problem. Again, really pleased with the construction of the Fender RI. Ceramic octal sockets, belton bear traps, etc. I was also able to reduce a bit of hum in the verb circuit by moving some wires around. A word of caution about TAD 9-pin tubes. The pins are fragile as pot metal spaghetti. I broke one off after carefully removing and reinstalling it twice. Great sound, however.
