Hey All,
I have a Blues Jr that I re-did using Doug's parts kit and was thinking of replacing the transformers. I'm still using the EL84's and don't plan on converting to 6V6/EL34 as I already have several other amps with those power tubes. Is there anything to be gained replacing the stock transformers and if so, which ones would you recommend? As always, your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Here's what Doug had to say...
"The customer sent me an Allen TP24 power transformer and a Mercury Magnetics choke
The Output transformer is a Heyboer 18 watt output, which I stock"
Don't know if you'll gain anything but it's good for the economy. :icon_biggrin:

Nothing really to gain by a new power transformer.
You might get better results with a new output transformer. The Heyboer 18-watt is probably a really good choice.

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the output transformer only in my head and you guys have convinced me. Besides, it's good for the economy. 😁

Changing the OT has a good chance of changing the character of the amp, but how? It'll be different, but will it be closer to what you want? Nobody can answer that, not even you.
So sure, if you've paid the bills and have a few dollars left over, then spend part of it on your wife and in the interest of science and economic growth get a different OT for your amp.
