Title: Blackstar Artisan 15 mods
Post by: jamcginley62 on September 24, 2019, 03:53:59 pm
Hey guys! So I recently got a Blackstar Artisan 15 and there are a few modifications I would like to make. First off, it is overly bright and harsh. I would like to make it more useable because it can be pretty ice picky. The next thing is that it really needs a master volume. I'm comfortable doing the modifications but I definitely need some help! If some of you more experienced amp guys could help me out that would be awesome. Thanks!

Some guy named H. Mitcheltree posted this on the internet so it must be accurate.
I'm sure he would want us to have it for reference.

Google found this pic for me.

All the coupling caps are quite small.  Maybe try larger one's starting after the first (input) stages. Maybe try disconnecting the vol pot bypass caps.

STAC = S#i^^y  Tube Amp Constructors. if y'all must know... :p

that schema i believe is correct. so much for folks ack. copyright notices! whee! they are P2P made in south korea.

where it all started: we had a problem with an artisan 30 - it had EL84s went into runaway. too much B+. there's a schematic out in the wild i compiled for that model as well.

IIRC, amp sounded best in 15W mode and with the pentode channel, however is/was bit on the harsh side.

FWIW,  published those schema because balckstar wouldn't pass along a schematic for the Artisan 30, citing dealer network, qualified service personnel, yada, yada, yada...

When I looked at the schematic, thought you were also the builder, couldn't figure out why you used small bottles  :icon_biggrin:

in this case just the publisher.

...couldn't figure out why you used small bottles

i do like the EL86/6CW5 and 6CM6.

I was gonna blame shooter if you weren't gonna let me get away with blaming Google. Next in line was TAG, then some guy named GVC66, maybe elektrotanya.com

I might be a shit stirrer but I'm no feather ruff'ler.

Not surprising since this looks like a preset crossline MV and not an actual "power" control

wonder why they deleted schema. did thread author or mod delete it?

try tacking in a 10nF to 15nF in parallel with the 4n7 located between the 1M and 15K resistors.

It was my initial reaction.
I figured Google would work the same for everyone so I wouldn't have to be the guy to piss off that big primate.
Didn't want to make anymore off topic, thread hijacking posts.  :icon_biggrin:
...ooops, just did it again.
