Title: transformer placement
Post by: Dimitree on September 30, 2019, 08:00:06 am
hello everyone,
I'm building a Vox AC30 amp clone,
and I'm stuck with transformer placement.
I know I should not place OT and PT with the same orientation, but what about the choke? for it, should I use the same orientation of the PT, or the same of OT? as you can see I only can mount the transformers upright, so only 2 orientation are possible.
Right now the distance between the PT and the OT is about 35cm center to center.
What do you think?

I don't use a choke much, but adding one on my current build, I keep in "inline" with the PT (front to back) If at ALL possible (It can be real close).
I try n keep all the iron as far away from my front panel as possible since that's usually where longer "fly" wires live.

Looks like you are going for a Marshall style layout? If so, take a look at my AC-15 layout. I recommend you move that OT far away from the input jacks. It's OK to have the OT mounted near the PT. I like to sandwich the choke between the PT and OT. Choke orientation is not critical.
