Title: Capacitor Voltages
Post by: Sine_wave_surfer on November 01, 2019, 04:59:15 pm
I need to get caps for the 18 watt 6v6 plexi kit and I noticed the voltage rating on the ones on the stock parts list are rated for 630 volts.  I'm thinking about using sozos but they're rated at 500 volts, and 200 instead of 250.  Just wondering if I'll be okay with them...

Stocking "all" possible voltages is awkward; some builders standardize on 630V (the highest common rating) for all work.

But you actually only need to cover the maximum voltage in THIS amplifier (including start-up surge). A 6V6 amp really should not be eating much over 450V. Confirm that, and the 500V parts may be ample.

Occasionally (Marshall) you find a 0.68u film-cap as a cathode bypass. This only needs to be 5V, but you can't buy a film-cap that weak, so use the next higher value. 9V stomp pedals often have 50V caps in that value. Buying from a "Tube Amp" supplier you may only see 200V as "low voltage", and that is fine.

I do not know. I'm posting here in hopes someone else knows an answer.

Hoffman no longer sells those transformers. You can get the same ones from Mojotone.com. Look for Marshall 18W transformers.

Or you can get any Deluxe Reverb style transformers at most every store on the net.
