Title: Electrohome Hi Fi Chassis ECL86 SE
Post by: Rusty on November 03, 2019, 01:24:55 pm
Greetings,

My second post on the forum... So after introductions I figured I would post what I can't really claim I've built, more like boiled down from a full console Hi Fi chassis receiver to just a stereo amplifier.

Uses a pair of ECL86s (originally 6GW8s) and a voltage doubler off the power transformer's 100 VAC output to make about 2.5 W per channel.  It's been my first foray into tube territory and I have ordered a quad of Chinese EL34s to build a push-pull unit with a bit more grunt.

I had no schematic to work with, so as I removed the RF tuner portion I would occasionally power the unit up to make sure it was still working.  Lots of caps have been replaced but so far the electrolytics are still OK.

I have noticed that one of the cathode bypass resistors has aged and 'worn' from the 150 ohm markings to 170.  I removed the tone controls and put in a newer volume pot and knob.  It's not boutique, but I like it.

Anyway as I acquire more for the EL34 build I will post my ideas and questions and see what gives.

I have not scratched out a schematic for the ECL86 chassis, but I should.  I will post it here.  If you refer to the EL34 p/p amp, well that is just ideas in my head so far...
