Title: New user who is not a closet amp-tech needing help
Post by: frenzy on November 11, 2019, 09:13:53 am
Hello, I am new to the forum, not an amp tech but obviously, like anyone (almost), I can learn. I have a Reinhardt 18-ish watt tmb type head that needs some serious trouble-shooting and help. But, I don't even know where to start. It's making odd noises and not performing to expectations.
My favorite amp tech here in Denver, Bruce Collins (Mission Amps) has gone radio silence, so no help there. Other reputable amp techs here in Denver are scarce as hen's teeth right now. Apparently, Reinhardt no longer builds amps I'm told and it seems difficult to contact him. Apparently, he is now building drag race engines here in Denver (which is cool).
Would be interested to learn if anyone is willing to help out a non-tech with trouble-shooting and possibly getting this amp back to doing what it is supposed to do. Thanks.

Welcome.

Tube substitution is usually a good first troubleshooting step.

Start a new discussion thread in the "Tube Amp Building - Tweaks - Repairs" forum. Try to give a good description of the symptoms and a bit about the history of this amp (how old, did you build it, did it ever work right, things like that). Measure voltages for every pin on every tube and post the results. Even if a pin reads zero volts we need to know. Zero is just as important as 300 volts. Post a schematic or a link to the schematic. Hi rez pics are usually very helpful. Sound clip of the amp is helpful too.
