email from a brother----
Well, I work in a supermarket. It has been war for the last week.
We do $1 mil/week in sales. Last week we did $1.5 mil. at $3/item, how many more items did we handle?
No wonder the warehouse is 48 hours behind on orders. It serves 150 stores. We got a Friday shipment today {Sunday} 4 AM, and our supply chain is way better than Costco or Walmart's.
No more than 250 persons are allowed to gather in NJ by gov't suggestion. Shoprite has had 300+ shoppers every minute since Thursday morning.
Customers all seem to need to be 24 inches away to ask about sanitizer, alcohol, TP, flour, chicken (we had none Saturday) and water (I think we sold 5 trailers of water this week- in winter!)
I wash hands about every 30 minutes all day.
If the shoppers get satiated, we might catch up by Friday or so. Or maybe the whole staff will catch a fever.
Got up at 5:30am to got break freight out of a truck and fill up paste sauce, can tomatoes, diapers. and Lysol spray.
I come home and lie down for an hour each day, then walk doggy.
Some fun.

My Nephew went to Wally world the other day. Had to walk to the help desk to ask for Toilet paper. Asked the lady behind the desk, "Do you have ANY toilet paper?". She didn't even look up and answered, "No Sir, we do not". He ask, "is there any in the store at all?" This time she looked up and with a very disgusted look on her face told him, "there is not any toilet paper in the store and none due till midnight". My nephew replayed, "thank you" and in his embarrassment, walked back to the rest room with his pants down around his ankles. Love it.
-
My Nephew went to
feel for him;
I had been going to Seneca Rocks to climb for ~8yrs, 12 pour-ta johns available 24hrs a day.
Then a "visitors center" got built.
showed up at 4AM, no porta-johns and the visitors center was locked up. My partner n I both dropped our drawers at their doors :icon_biggrin:
Next time I showed up at 5-ish, there was 8 prota-johns unlocked :icon_biggrin:

Odd observations;
Build into us are a couple DNA left-overs, fight or flight and hunter-gatherer,
I’m out every day, those I see “living normal”, fit the hunter, or fight by 80%
This morning I listened to an interview with “Hans, a Luthier”
The quote that reinforced my observations “Hans says his wife considers him a stubborn man, then thanked him, “because he would have died long ago had he not been stubborn””
oddities talking with those “living normal” , “we learned how to be safe at 10”, “locking us up, instills fear, fear eats your immune system”, “I need to build this house so a family can feel safe, If God wants to kill me, so be it” “I care for those we loose under any condition, I don’t understand why most people only seem to care during a crisis”
my favorite from cranky 80+ cancer survivor; “let ‘em lock me up, 10minutes later I’ll have ½ the jail all to myself!”
thoughts n observations from a map dot :laugh:

fun bird watching;
yesterday I pulled to the shoulder to watch a pileated wood pecker, then a second one showed up (very rare to have 2 at the same wood here). They were hammering away, chips flying, but it wasn't a tree, It was a power pole, one on each side of the support arm holding a rather large step-down for the pill factory :w2:
My estimate, 30 minutes and gravity would become a big # in the math :laugh:
unfortunately a big rig was winding up in the parking lot and scared them to the near by woods.
this morning the BBG was a buzz about the 3week lock-down, discussions of ammo count, available meat in the fields, what happens when the people stacked 100 to the acre freak out, and and, was a great way to kill an hour :icon_biggrin:

We're having to disinfect and reuse N95 due to shortages. The majority of possible cases here are travellers watching outbreak maps and it's getting really irritating. There really aren't many residential cases at all in WV. I think we have a natural barrier of meth and coal dust in our lungs. :laugh: I spent an hour and a half in the back of an ambulance with someone traveling from Florida. It was an interfacility to another hospital to do testing for it. I just found out this morning (2 days later) that she's negative so I don't have to worry about it. So far no Paramedics have been infected in WV but I really wish people would stay the hell home. Rediculous! I should have became an astronaut...or farmer :icon_biggrin:

reuse N95
My wife can't get any! (she's a CT tech). one patient Sat tested positive, I told her to have her boss test her n co-workers, she said they don't have enough test kits for staff!! kinda glad I was out-sourced from medical systems after N1H1, and before toilet paper flu :think1:

I was with a working gallery when one of the cool name bugs was around, the lead artist Nick, posted a sign; open for business, we're all so polluted with drugs, alcohol and old disease the public is safe :icon_biggrin:

Your wife may luck out at the hardware store for masks. I think most people here are raiding Walmart and pharmacies while not realizing that Lowe's have N95 dust masks. But then again it's WV so that may not be the case there.

Oh, I know very well, my wife is an OSSS (3 SSS not only 2) it means Specialized social and health worker
it is very close to a Graduate Nurse, can not only make intravenous and put infusion, but it is enabled for disabled (also mental) and elderly people (which our graduate nurses are not qualified for)
And ...... as you say, it aint for most
you have to have a lot of patience and dedication, there are no holidays or special holidays, practically all the days of the year are the same, no Christmas, New Year, Easter and when working with people, for example, with Alzheimer's, well .......... you know how it is (you have seen with your eyes, I suppose)

there's an 'ol saying, (probably originated near you :)

> there's an 'ol saying, (probably originated near you :) "walk a mile in a man's shoes" :laugh:
I can picture old Romans saying "walk a mille in another man's sandals".
And it has been around "all" my life. Often mocked:
“I tried to walk a mile in a man's shoes once. I ended up running most of the way!! Seems he wanted them back..”
"Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them, and you have their shoes."
FWIW, in English the only example pre 1957 is a long dry poem from 1895:
"Remember to walk a mile in his moccasins
And remember the lessons of humanity taught to you by your elders.
We will be known forever by the tracks we leave
In other people's lives, our kindnesses and generosity."
Judge Softly, Mary T. Lathrap, 1895

> Why toilet paper of all things
The reason is simple. About 40% of TP is used at work or school. Most of that crap now happens at home. So there is overstock of industrial TP and understock of home TP.
So sell industrial TP at ShopRite? Not that easy. First nobody likes it, and doesn't want to pay for it. In recent years it is all on an odd size roll which won't fit our home paper-hangers. Moreover it is not "the same stuff". Home TP is mostly "virgin paper" (the "recycled" brand did not do well). Industrial TP is whatever pulp is cheap including old newspaper and boxes (the brown bits bleached out). They do not go to the same warehouses or the same distributors.
And TP normally sells at very very low profit. And right now nobody can raise the price or they will be accused of profiteering. If this keeps up the price will rise slightly as production and distribution shifts to the market. Except everybody hopes this will NOT keep up, so why expand the pulp and rolling mills and warehouse and be over-supplied after the crisis?
-

"Put simply, and our criticism is not of the Governor in this regard but of the statute in dispute — almost certainly, no individual in the history of this state has ever been vested with as much concentrated and standardless power to regulate the lives of our people, free of the inconvenience of having to act in accord with other accountable branches of government and free of any need to subject her decisions to the ordinary interplay of our system of separated powers and checks and balances, with even the ending date of this exercise of power reposing exclusively in her own judgment and discretion," the majority wrote.
