Reading through some other topics on the use of alternate triode tubes here in this Forum. I was wandering about tubes with diodes built in. So I read through a few topics, about this. Most say to forget about the diodes side, use the triode. Then, looking at a 6AQ7, these tubes are kind of inexpensive. It has a triode with some good numbers, (at least I think so). Just would have to use one per socket which throws the cheep-o build out along with the real estate to go with it. BUT those darn diodes can be used for something, right? Such as a rectifier for a DC relay? The 6AQ7 can run 1 amp through the diode circuit. That could be used for DC on the first 2 tubes of a pre-amp, right, right? This could work, or could this work?. Or am I thinking crazy due to having to stay away from people. :BangHead: ME=frustration with this new social distancing.

Quit dreaming. Pretend they are not there.

I went down your thought road in the pre-T.P. world, some fuzzy recollections ;
use the diodes for "clamping" for distortion effect in pre.
and the rest of my thoughts tracked your line. I probably got a handful if you want to play, the dust is real thick on 'em :icon_biggrin:

OK, OK. Just feels like now, we should use everything we have, before the END. No waste, every spare square. Diodes should be used for a mans good. WHOW, I know, a have a great Idea, I'll get double triode tubes from now on. I would shake your hands for the answers, but I'm keeping one hand in my pocket and in the other I have a walking stick. If I can touch you with it you are to close. lol

Those diodes are useful for tiny signal, no power applications, such as an FM detector. In fact, according to RC-19, your tube was a very good fm detector and first audio tube in early receivers.
If you are really interested in no waste you should get away from tube circuits. Just look at all the inefficiency and waste just to heat a tube so it can waste even more energy. Solid state digital audio is the way to go! :l2:

milli-Amp! Actually 0.9mA on the sheet I peeped.
And common-cathode with the triode, which severely limits the ways it can be wired.
Yes low-low-price and all Golden-Age production. Hope you like drilling sockets and wiring heaters.

You got me I'm just a ol cut up. Solid state digital audio is the way to go!
No Way Dude, It has taken me to long to get this far with tubes, no time left to learn solid state chicken scratch now. Not enough TP left in the world.

Yep, my bad,,, miss read the data. I MIGHT have caught that when I drill a giant hole for the thing and tried to wire it up.

Why not use the diodes the way they were supposed to be used? Radio transmission i believe. You could make this a wireless receiver!

listening to digital noise makes you cranky :icon_biggrin:

I may try building a radio when SHTF to keep up with whats going on in the world, but it will have to be battery opp. already looking into that. Might just use crystals and razor blades, like my Dad did.

That`s the spirit. Seriously, i am glad you asked about the diodes i was wondering about that, too.

like my Dad did
mine showed me how to use "cat whiskers", ran a 50 wire around the back yard, listened to music, good times!
