My Son called last night and the conversation was a lot like that article;
"Is critical thought" lost now that computers have "quantified" everything?
my argument, the "old methods" have been measured and sampled enough that "modeling" is the new normal.  the models are tried, but thoughts about outcomes don't get the "looks" they would have, more like, didn't work, tweak input.

thanks for the article, I find the greats of old refreshing in a new world

One reason I spotted that is because Fender gets some friction for apparently misusing Tremolo and Vibrato. But Harvey was one of the top acousticians of the time and he doesn't come to a hard conclusion which term is what. Even says that AM and FM are much alike to the ear.
