I have a questions about EC Tremolux...I understand there is a resistor something that is cutting gain I dont understand why they would do that as there is a low power switch. my question is can I just remove this resistor/component?
-
Show us the resistor on a schematic.
-
Ha, you're shadowing me :icon_biggrin:
here's Dougs list of tremolux's there's 5-6 different ones all have Resistors, gotta narrow it down some to help

Yes, you can remove that resistor.
-
Yes thank you so much Sluckey....so it was on another forum
Do you know why it was put there...just curious
-
The original 5E9A had two channels with two 1M volume pots. The EC only has one channel and one 1M volume pot. The resistor in question simulates the missing volume pot. Look at a 5E9A schematic to see this.
-
So thats why gain is so much more when resister is removed.
Tone much better too
Great...much appreciated

Do you actually have this amp? Can you post some pics of the innards?
-
Yes I do
I only took one of resistor in question
-
That class of volume control does not even work "right" without a load like that resistor.
But it "works" either way. Suit yourself.
-
define "right" to my ears amp sounds thin and then just flubby at higher volumes with that resistor
Without it amp sings and at higher volumes breaks up nicely

thanks tubeswell for these pics may I download them for future use?
