Title: Tweed Overdrive Special (Tubenit )
Post by: Mungo Park on July 17, 2020, 10:35:46 am
I was collecting parts to build the Tweed BluezMeister. While searching and reading about the variations I came across the Overdrive Special. I am now thinking of switching hoses midstream, I think it is doable as I am not that far along.
To this end I think this is the original post and schematic of the Overdrive Special, July 2010.
https://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=9636.0

Is this a good schematic to go with or have their been some updated versions since.
Any help would be appreciated.............................Cheers Ron.

Yes, that's a good schematic and layout.  The Dumblish inspired amps are amps that you build and then tweak to your taste, IMO.  So, that's true of the TOS also.  It's a great sounding amp and it has a considerable amount of gain.  Instead of clean/overdrive …………….. think of it as mild overdrive and very overdriven & not much of a clean tone.  Lots of sustain to it.

Here is a sound clip of the one I built.   https://soundclick.com/r/s5ndct

With respect, Tubenit

Thanks for the reply and sound clip, sounds fantastic to me.
I will move along with this project, I am very slow and did have a big delay in the middle here but it is quality not speed as my goal. I will build it Point to Point, and post photos as I go.
I will look into my "stash" and see of I have a op transformer to run the big bottles. If not maybe the first tweak would be to dial it down for 6V6, but I will look at what I got first.
                                                            Cheers Ron.

It may complicate things to much for me to sub in 6V6's. I will stick with the big bottles and see how it goes first.
                         Cheers Ron

I just finished one of these and it turned out great. I will only say this: get a big enough chassis. I squoze mine into Doug's 17x8x2.5 and I would have been smart to go a bit bigger.

It sounds great!
Good luck,
Jerry

I have built 2 of these. One using 6L6s and another using different iron to use 6V6. Honestly, I used 5881 in that one until very recently when I actually put 6V6s in it. They are both nice amps.

I thought that I should follow the road map first before straying off into the weeds. My skill level teels me to stick to the script. Also if I want to go 6V6 it will be easier to go down from from 6L6 than up from 6V6.
Thanks for the insight.                  Cheers Ron

I am going to build Point to Point, but looking at the biggest box I can that will still fit on the Cab I will use.
                                                Cheers Ron.

It was highly suggested to me not to use to small of a chassis so I used 8x20x2.5. It worked very well.

Thanks for the chassis dimensions.
I have a OP Transformer on order.
