Title: my next 10 year hobby
Post by: shooter on August 11, 2020, 06:11:05 pm
joined a forum, doing the "reads", even learning
No flying "PT" yet (the drone weighs ~ 4lb:), but it's book-marked  :icon_biggrin:
The flight data tickles my geek side, the 4K video, the artist side
following one of the top "data miners" he talks about the math he uses, I looked  :think1:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternion_algebra

I like tube math better  :icon_biggrin:

found this clip done of Seneca WV, one of the best east coast rocks I've ever climbed

tore down the motor, gave it a bath, lube job, back in service
tested out 550m, up 120m came back under computer control to within a meter of launch!  not to shabby for a "toy"

the Frog even got legs!!  I ordered yellow from C-com-store, guess red is still a primary color  :think1:

I'll be ready for the next full moon, might even break the AGL IF the "shot" is there

Quit dammit, I said quit.  I don't even have time to play with all the toys I already have, run with all the young hippie chics I want to.  Man, I miss live shows and strip clubs.

I guess I am destined to become a bigger nerd than I am.  With EVH's passing, I am quite sure I listen to more dead people than alive.  I give in, gimme one!  I can fly it into a tree as good as you can!

I need to get out and fly more often. This was in the Texas Hill Country, I used Litchi software to plot and fly. All on/over privately owned land with permission.

WOW, nice!

I just booked 6 weeks worth of camping in TX (Dec-Jan)!!!
If finances work out I'm hoping to find an acre or so, IN hill country, for a "country boy winter retreat"!!

If not, at least have a hard drive full of flights like that  :icon_biggrin:

Shooter - like that Hubert C music. I understand and speak very little French, but have always loved the way French lyrics sound. My wife and I went to Texas Hill Country for a couple of weeks last year. Really loved it. There were a lot of real estate for sale signs, as young folk were moving to Austin. But maybe that has changed now with Covid. Also went down to Terlingua and Big Bend and loved that too. If you think there are a lot of strange people in your neck of the woods; visit Terlingua to establish a new standard!

I swapped him out for my stepson's guitar, less liability  :icon_biggrin:

made the leap to the real deal
EVO 2 PRO 6K

took it out today against my better judgement as the winds were sustained at 20, gusting to 40mph  :w2:
flew like a brick in the wind  :icon_biggrin:

need to figure out the complexities, but the simples went just fine!

callin it BRICK!
I took off the stops and let it fly, north 3600', back 3600', past me south out another 1800' then back. and I still had 78% battery!!!!
nothing dropped out, solid telemetry and video feed.  limited speed to GPS mode 22mph!
this ain't like the .049 line controllers I flew as a kid  :icon_biggrin:
she's a data hog though, 4 minute video, edited, with music 785MB.  trimmed a 20 second clip 78MB

Hey, do you need to have any permissions for flying this stuff? One of my pals once mentioned such a thing but I'm not sure.

permissions
the FAA
local
State
private land owners
a typical fine starts at $1500 and goes UP from there for EACH infraction
The one that just kills me;
I'm certified "recreational", I can shot all the film I want, but IF i profit from it I loose the drone, my cert., my 401K BUT if I pay Uncle $150 and pass a test, shoot the EXACT shots, I'm golden boy  :icon_biggrin:

look up a YT'r that was fined $182,000 for not paying the $150 shake down fee

Took the red-neck camper for a 3 day cruise
flew 3 hours, 33G of raw footage yields 4 nice videos for 1.2G, rendered a directors cut, 199Meg because of metered WiFi  :cussing:

As a geek, The "tech" in the EVOII is simply amazing.  It's like "that Amp", the one you grab when it's game time!
As an artist, I can just "play".
If you watched the last clip, the last 10 seconds, I was so into the shots, the "song" I didn't check altitude!  Thinking it would be like a musician so into the riff, the stage edge isn't a thought  :icon_biggrin:
The drone will go into "auto-land" at 10 feet, I was 9.8ft!
thanks to the magic of EDIT, I made it look like I meant to do that  :angel

LOL, some "researcher's" IIRC in EU, decided to train Eagles to take out drones.  While somewhat successful, they opted for tech over raptor.

Hmm tough call;
me, i'm looking at a misdemeanor at the county/state level
You, looking at 2 federal firearm felonies
I don't make the laws, I just report them  :icon_biggrin:

I try REALLY hard to avoid ALL human contact when flying,  humans are annoying enough.

the originals are about 4meg files so they work well.
