Title: quick question on heater wiring
Post by: AmberB on September 12, 2020, 08:33:51 pm
So, does it make a difference if the heater wires go to the same side of the preamp tubes, as in, all the pin 9s should be hooked to the same heater wire? Does it matter?

... does it make a difference if the heater wires go to the same side of the preamp tubes ...

I've seen that since the mid-90s.  I actually tried it out in the late 90s.  No effect.

If you think hard about it, for the idea to word the tubes would have to have a specific defect, and even then have a specific arrangement of triodes in-circuit.  And even then, some triodes would amplify hum more than others, so the hum won't be canceled.

It's just a flawed idea.  People repeat it because a supposed expert wrote it a long time ago.
