Not sure what thread this should go under....
I was considering replacing a friend's stock OT in a PRRI with an upgraded size/version. The Allen TO20 which I have is $70, not far off from a typical PR OT prices as far as I can tell. But I've been very surprised to see that a BF Deluxe OT is nearly half the price?!?! Less than $40 for almost every major brand/retail store.
What gives? I'm fairly new to the build world. Has it always been like that? Anyone have any idea that is?

look up Edcor, they split the difference in $ typically, but they sell Iron, not Iron for ZXR amp so you need to know specs.
my understanding Allan is good iron, i don't mind paying a few bucks extra for quality

allen amps transformers are made by heyboer. good stuff. it's custom wound, so he charges more for it and are stated to be built-up (beefier) than stock components.

To clarify, I am happy with my Allen OT. I am just puzzled why Deluxe OT’s are consistently cheaper than Princeton OT’s across multiple brands. Or any other OT for that matter. Is that an industry norm?

compare apples to apples. hammond parts are same price from same source.
classictone deluxe OT are $34.95 ea. qty. 12

EDIT: i stand corrected. my apologies for the misinformation. the classictone deluxe parts do indeed cost less, single or qty.

Hey DummyLoad,
Appreciate your findings. Thanks for taking the time. Not trying to be combative or corrective but your classic tone prices are not correct. You grabbed the QTY price on the Princeton but not the Deluxe. The deluxe is $25 at qty of 12 So still 15% cheaper for more iron.
It’s not a major deal. I was more so just curious if there was some unique design to the Deluxe OT that made it cheaper for some reason.
Appreciate everyone entertaining my curiosities.

Well, the Princeton OT is smaller, and its higher primary impedance may require more turns of thinner wire. Given the paper formers used, it may just be that they take longer to make, perhaps with a higher scrappage rate?

Magnetic Components (classictone) is providing Fender transformers for all the reissue Princetons.
