Title: Happy accident single ended el84 amp with lots of distortion
Post by: steveo7868 on October 28, 2020, 04:56:30 pm
I put together an amp last night to test this inexpensive Amazon transformer
someone had shared a link its like 17.00

anyway I used a hammond 269-EX for power which I know is too small
but what was cool is the massive distortion at the low plate voltage

I mean to me it sounds kinda like a high gain 12ax7 preamp with at least 3 gain stages

running like 230 on the plate
just two 12ax7 stages in series and a simple vol/tone

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081WBZHW5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

kinda like a simple AX84 P1

anyway had to share

it may be a bit harsh after listening for a while I guess the low power thing may not sound as cool as I thought
but it was a surprise for sure

Unfortunately when I click the link the trans listed is unavailable. Too bad, I’d give her a try at that price.
