I can import .diy files and click on each item, one at a time, to add them. I was hoping to dump entire collections into the program at once.
When I try importing .xml files via 'Files -> Integration -> Import Building Blocks' OR 'Files -> Integration -> Import Variants' ... I get the same error message. See attached.
The error message is griping about the lack of a no-args constructor, which is some component of java.
What am I doing wrong?
DIYLC version: 4.9.0
OS: Linux Mint 20 (Ulyana)
java -version:
openjdk version "11.0.9.1" 2020-11-04

I have, but I did not see this issue mentioned.

You don't import .diy files, you just open them in DIYLC

I should have phrased it like this: "I can import (using the import command in the file menu) OR open .diy files and add each item one at a time." My issue is still with the .xml files. Those can NOT be imported as building blocks or variants. Does the .xml file integration feature no longer work?
-
post one of the files here and I will test it
You have to zip .xml files in order to attach them to the post here
Try importing the 9 pin Belton building block file I attached

Will do first thing when I get back to the house this afternoon. Thanks!
I did sign in to the 'Cloud' service in DIYLC v4.9 ... is that a new feature for sharing? Perhaps building block and variant 'libraries' could be shared there as well.

The cloud is not new
I don't use the cloud, but there may be things there you can use
I have my own DIY library on my web site
Did you go to my library here?

I had a look around, but did not see any libraries.

I did. Perhaps I am going about this all wrong. Let's say I want to add all of the contents from 'Caps-Electrolytic.diy' so that each individual cap in that .diy file is a variant in my library, nested under 'Electrolytic Caps'. Can that be done in one fell swoop? Or do I have to load up 'Caps-Electrolytic.diy'... then click on each item and individually add as a variant in my library?
I suspect the 'no-args constructor' reference is a Linux permission issue and it can probably be resolved (by one of the linux gearheads) fairly easily. I only know enough Linux to communicate with cab drivers and bartenders..
-
You don't use the cap.diy file to import variants, you use the cap.xml file
Variants and building block files are .xml, not .diy files
cap.diy is a diy file, not an exported variants file
You can open the .diy file and then copy and past the caps to one of your layouts, but you would have to right click on each one to save as a varaiant
They are already in the .xml variants file

I think I already covered this in one of my videos
Did you watch any of the videos here?

Yes, I watched the videos on importing xml building block and variant files. It does not work on my computer, I get the error message. Let me try the .xml you sent earlier in the zip and go from there.

It could be that my files are from way back and many updates have happened since then
I can upload some new files to the library when I get time

Is the file you attached earlier a recent export? That would tell us a lot if that works and the older ones do not.

Yes, I just exported that file today
I attached freshly exported Building blocks and Variants in a .zip
These are all my Building Blocks and Varinats

Unfortunately those did not load. I think that points to a Linux. I will try loading up DIYLC on a Windows machine at some point over the holiday and see if that works.
Thanks!

By "load", you did this.... correct?
Unzip the .XML files
File-Integration
Import Building blocks or
Import variants

Yes, that is exactly what I did.

I am also unable to import the xml files on my MacBook.
I get the "does not have no-args constructor".
What does this mean?
BTW, when I try to open the files I get strings of code, not images--is this expected?

Yes, that is normal.

I have no idea about MAC's
The link I posted above is where you can get help for that stuff
You don't open the .xml files
Did you read the info up above on what to do with them?
-
Yes, I read the above posts.
yes, I followed the instructions to integrations/import/variants.
I have started a thread at GitHub to seek help.

Do you mind posting back (here) if you resolve the 'no-args constructor' issue? thx
-
Sure, I will definitely post anything I find out... I’m not holding my breath.
I spent most of yesterday learning how to manipulate what I could get to work. I created a handful of component variants to design/draw a layout to order a board from Hoffman.

Would you mind exporting your variants and sharing them? I am curious if I can import them...

FWIW - The .deb file for DIYLC 4.10.0 is now available. I just downloaded and installed it, hoping 'no-args' was a bug that got fixed. No joy, same error message as before.

I would be happy to share Although, it may take me a while to accomplish it...
The mag lock charging cord to my 2010 MacBook Pro just shit the bed. I have an after market replacement coming—should arrive by the weekend.
And, it will probably take this old dog some effort to learn the new trick.

look at reply #16
It is not difficult to export or import
Also, I have a video on how to do that

Hey - was this resolved? I'm having the same "no-args" issue when trying to import the xml variants on my 2013 mac book pro.

Not that I am aware of...

You guys should chime in here so that your issue will be seen by Bansika, the author of DIYLC

I’m not waiting...
I’ve been drawing my own variants by editing the ones that are initially there.
I will try to load some of the variants I’ve drawn tonight.

I have a bunch of variants and building blocks in my library as .diy files
You can open the .diy files and save the individual components as variants and building blocks

Im doing the same thing brewdude - modifying and saving component variants as I go along. Doug it's probably a good idea to talk to developers alright but I find this software is very very buggy and not intuitive at all on a mac system so I am guessing the developers are all PC based - while this is frustrating and time consuming I am very grateful that there is an option for us mac users at all.
