Title: using a fet follower for a little clean boost
Post by: swingarm on December 02, 2020, 10:06:40 pm
Hi there guys. I was wondering if this is possible or would it just end up driving the power amp into distortion?

I built a supro clone and decided i did'nt want tremolo. I inserted those two gain stages into the normal channel and made it switchable with the clean channel on a dpdt switch. The distortion channel is very loud and the clean channel is moderate. I know the limitations in the circuit but was wondering if i could use the fet follower to increase the clean signal some. Any thoughts?

A follower, whether cathode, emitter, or source, always has slightly less output than input. Gain is typically 0.9.  Nothing to be gained here.

Thank you sluckey. It is what it is then :)

There may be other options. Can you post a schematic that shows what you have now?

I tried to post a schematic but it must not like my browser. I tried 3 time

There should be another coupling cap before the switch . The amp is working presently. Thanks for any ideas you might add.

I would add a voltage divider to the output of the additional gain stages (before the second half of the switch), to make the level more balanced.

Oh okay, yeah that makes sense. Thank you!
