Hello all. I have a couple of amps that I need speakers for. I generally like to mix ceramics with alnicos. The amps in question are a tweed deluxe and a super reverb. I have a vintage c12r and a vintage c12n but seem to be having a hard time finding their counter parts. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with mixing vintage jensen speakers with the weber equivalent. Considering getting their versions of the p12r and p12n. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have the experience with the speakers you are asking about but I do like this topic.
I have found that by using the frequency response charts of different speakers I am able to fill out the spectrum by using 2 different speakers that "fill in the gaps" in each other.
So, if I see a speaker that has a pronounced peak at around 2Khz I try to find a second speaker that will have it's own peak(s) at a different frequency and the 2 speakers combined will fill each other out.
As long as the speakers are fairly close in efficiency one won't dominate the other, unless you want to mix them like that also. No one says they have to be equivalent.
I look across the whole spectrum and try to find 2 charts that have "opposing" response curves.
One of my favorite rock cab combos is a Celestion G12H30 mixed with a G12M Heritage. On paper it's lop sided, with the G12H30@ 100dB and the G12M@ 96dB , but to my ear it sounds perfect.
Just throwing this out there for you. It's something else to consider besides just mixing magnet types.

Thanks for the reply. Your response definitely make a lot of sense to me. Maybe I'll go that route and may even find a combo that I like better than what I had in mind. I'm a big fan of mixing the h&m magnets as well.

Athough I haven't tried it (yet) I've read that many folks use two different magnet structure speakers, alnico and ceramic in the same cabinet. Here's an example for you:
The first pic is the freq. curve of a modern "Vintage C12N". if we can, let's take the liberty to assume that your actual vintage freq. curve should be (at least) similar to this.
The second curve is a new release alnico from Jensen - 12" Blackbird 40
Notice how the Blackbird adds some bass around 100hz, has peaks before and after 2K (where C12N is right on 2K), and then the highs are very different.
C12N@ 98db and the Blackbird@ 96db sensitivity

Ended up purchasing a p12n last night (organ pull) for a very reasonable price. I'm gonna use your method here to find a matter for the c12r. Thanks for the advice

I have zero experience with weber speakers, been reading for years about how they are probably the front runners for that vintage Jensen tone though. I believe that speaker would be their equivalent to the p12q? I'm still trying to hold out for a vintage Jensen. In the past I built an amp with a c12r paired with a p15r and it was one of the best sounding cabs I've ever heard.

I have a (2) 12 cab, G12H30 with an Alnico Red Fang. Both have about 100dB, the Red Fang is Eminence’s version of a Celestion Blue. Fantastic combo for hard rock, sounds great through a 6v6 Plexi. Gets a tight bass from the G12H and nice singing high end from the Red Fang.
