Title: Loud amp! I need more control.
Post by: raza on January 29, 2021, 03:43:11 am
Hi,

I finished a marshall/bogner stlyle amp, and I put 1Mohm LOG in volume control. I only can open to 9oclock and I get LOUD LOUD volume. What can I do IF i want to get this volume at 1 oclock more or less.

THANKS!!!!!!! :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

You could add a fixed voltage divider before the MV (e.g like on Friedman amps). Experiment with the values. You could make it switchable so you can get full blast into the PI when you can use it.

Show schematic, we work like a blind people with no schematic.

I can see. Here's a simple way to convert 9 to 1...

I've gone even further and used a 680k resistor followed by a 250k volume pot. Much easier to control, and still enough range to get to full power.

In theory, a proper log pot has 10% of its value at the mid point. Meaning you'd have to do say a 920k resistor followed by a 100k pot to make the full range correspond to half the usual range.

Another trick is two cascade two volume controls with the FX Loop (assuming there is one) in between. Aka a channel volume, then loop, then master volume (aka loop return). By keeping the Master low, you can fine tune with the Channel volume.
