Title: Filmosound OT PT Wire Gauge
Post by: jonathan_kea on February 02, 2021, 08:59:10 am
I picked up a Bell & Howell Filmosound chassis at a yard sale, with the PT and OT snipped out unceremoniously from the chassis. The leads are really short, and I want to splice in new ones. It's difficult to determine the gauge of the wire just by looking at the sheathing, although they are likely in the 18-22 range. Are there any rules of thumb around wire gauge for primaries/secondaries of PTs and OTs? These components would power a 5E3 Fender Deluxe I believe.

20ga is likely fine for both high voltage & heaters.  If you're really concerned, you could use 18ga for the heaters, but there's not really enough current in one of those project amps to justify it.
