Hello fellow members. New guy here! As it's 4 am and I should be in bed instead of playing around on the computer, this will be a brief 'intro'.
My name is Tom, and I've been around 'amp' for over 50 years. I do a lot of building and repair, but mostly in the world of Hi-Fi and Home Audio. All Tubes!!! I just turned 69, but I'm still pretty active, and hope to stay that way for another good decade or two! My main hobbies are, of course, amplifiers.....which is where I spend most of my time over the 'winter' months. Once the weather becomes more to my liking (air temp over 65 and water in liquid form), I'll migrate to my 'outside' hobbies, which are motorcycles and boating. I live on the Chesapeake Bay in the Baltimore, Maryland USA area. I try to go fishing daily once the season starts. And, I ride my motorcycles regularly and try to take one or two extended trips every year. By that, I'm talking a 2 or 3 thousand mile ride.
I have a 'significant other' who's been my partner for the past 15 years, and while she's still employed as a nurse, I'm now 'retired'. Her schedule is pretty rigorous, and over the past year her 'exposure' to the covid thing makes me think she should consider retiring too. But, she's got a few more years before that happens, so I guess I just bide my time! Anyway, I have 3 kids of my own, all living in the Detroit, Michigan area, where I'm basically from (actually Ann Arbor if you want to be 'technical' about it). And, my kids all now have kids....which makes me a proud GrandPa! I try to make a cycle trip back to Michigan annually as well.....which is a good ride in and of itself!
Anyway....I have this nagging feeling that I've met Doug Hoffman at some point in the past......and I'd love to speak with him at some point in order to confirm this! One of my 'gurus' in my early stages of the hobby was Jeff Bober of Budda Amp fame. Jeff taught me a lot, but in seeking knowledge I seem to recall meeting up with Doug somewhere, as well as I also befriended good old Gerald Weber of Kendrick! Probably a few more names I could drop, but maybe wouldn't mean much unless you were also a "hi-fi" guy!!
With that, I'll sign-off of this post and go back to looking at the Blues Junior 'bias control pot' mod!....which is what I'm here for now! Thanks to all in advance, and hope to make some new friends and acquaintances in the near future.
