Title: Question/verification needed re: PT primaries, fuse, IEC and indicator wiring
Post by: PharmRock on March 07, 2021, 10:59:59 am
I have a ClassicTone Marshall 50W transformer (40-18023) where blue is common, black is 120V tap (and orange and yellow are 220,240 respectively--tied off).  I am wiring up the power switch, fuse and 120V indicator lamp and my understanding is below (assume power switch lug 1 and lug 2 are connected in the "on" position"):

 1. "Line" at the IEC connector runs into the fuse, then I run a wire out of the fuse housing to the power switch lug 1.
2. The blue common wire from the PT primary connects to the switch via lug 2.
3. The black 120V primary tap connects with Neutral at the IEC.
4. I am using a 120V indicator lamp.  One wire from lamp will connect to lug 2 on the power switch where the PT primary common (blue) is connected.  Another wire will run from the lamp to the neutral connection on the IEC where the 120V tap (black) also connected.

Just making sure I have this correct.  Most of the schematics I have found use indicators that run off the heater supply, so mine is a little different.

Thanks for any help/suggestions/confirmation of the above.

Doesn't sound right to me. I would do this...

thanks!
the wiring diagram for the PT definitely shows blue as common and the first primary tap is black at 120v.  I figured that the common primary wire would connect to Line but wasn't sure.
will be wiring up today per your suggestion.  appreciate the help!

Your method would work also, but since you said the black PT wire was labeled 120V, it's best to connect that to line.

Here is a rear view of the IEC receptacle showing the connections.

thanks.  After several close-up photo and zoom attempts I was able to decipher the imprinted L, N and E letters on the housing for the IEC I have.  Even 2.5x readers are barely enough anymore I'm afraid.
