I have a 5F1 clone with tone control and presence. I am using an 8.2k instead of the 22k using a 25k linear pot.
Volume is about normal with the presence turned down(off) dialed up to about 7 o'clock adds much more volume
And as you dial you do get tonal (I am not a good enough guitarist to explain better) difference but at about noon
It starts to quiet back down almost to totally muted as the pot turns to the right.
The pot was a booger to get in, very confined work area. Also the pot is pretty solidly soldered with bus bar ground and the whole 9. My question is removing the 8.2k resistor and just use the pot or put 100ohmn resistor and then the pot...?
Sorry for my ramblings

Showing schematic may help us.
Short answer ; 8.2 k is too small if circuit need a 22 k
