Title: D-inspired 6BM8 ideas
Post by: tubenit on January 02, 2022, 10:44:19 am
I've not built either of these, but would like to. Perhaps someone here will be interested in these ideas.  If you build one of these, please PM me and let me know OR better yet, post it on the Tweaks section.

CHECK for ERRORS Compare schematic with layout.  IF there is a discrepency, go with the schematic and match the layout to it.

On my last 6BM8 build, I used Edcor Transformers and I am very happy with them.   Power tranny  XPW R057      Output tranny  GXPP 15-8k    The PT is 210-0-210 and with a solid state rectifier, I got 284v on the power tube plates.  Would have preferred about 305v, but the amp sounds amazingly good to me.

Info and pics on that build with Edcor trannies here:  6BM8 amp (el34world.com) (https://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=27966.0)

Yesterday, I tried my Carolina Overdrive Special preamp into the power amp of the "Minimalist" 6BM8 amp.  It sounded excellent to me!  I think it could use some minor tweaking on the OD channel, but I probably wouldn't have changed a thing about the clean channel.  I think this would be a good way to get a decent clean tone along with a switchable OD tone in a small 7 watt amp.   The purpose of this experiment was to see how the 6BM8 tubes would do with switchable clean to OD tones.

The D'Mars OD was one of my favorite amp designs.  This is a 6BM8 version of that.

CHECK for ERRORS!  These are DRAFT designs.  Compare schematic with layout, if there is a discrepency ...... go with schematic.
