Title: Valco umbilical cord
Post by: bmccowan on January 07, 2022, 11:21:40 am
I am working on a Valco Gretsch 6159. 2x6L6 amp with separate pre and power amps connected by a 6 conductor umbilical cord. The amp suffered terrible previous repairs - masking tape wiring repairs included. Once result is that the power amp end of the umbilical cord burned. I am about to repair the cord but thought I'd ask if anybody knows a source for such cable. It seems to be 2-20awg and 4-22awg conductors. I found some Belden cables that are close but no cigar, and they are sold in large rolls. Pretty sure I can repair what is left of the cable, but thought I'd take a shot here.

Maybe a little large but would do the job.

I looked around on that site a little more and came across this:
18 AWG - Multi-Conductor - 600V - Stranded Conductor - Shielded - VNTC Tray Cable | ShowMeCables.com (https://www.showmecables.com/by-category/bulk-wire-cable/tray-cable/600v-vntc-tray-cable/18-awg-multi-conductor-600v-stranded-conductor-shielded-vntc-tray-cable)

Outside diameter is down to .37" instead of .49"

Thanks again Silvergun. I was not aware of that vendor and it seems they offer a lot of items by the ft. that others only offer in 25' spools or longer.

Funny aside - as the result of searching for cables, I am now getting popup ads for Diesel Locomotive Cable! Ridin' that Train, High on Cocaine...
